FOREWORD: I know it appears that in the photos part of this website that I have been monopolizing the comment space "left and right". It appears to me that many of the postings there have been deliberately left unidentified to see if anyone actually knows what the pictures show. I have been waiting for months to see if anyone would post anything. No one has. So, as a librarian, I hope no one minds that I filled in the blanks whenever possible.
<
MAIN ISSUE: Yesterday, P&M posted a photograph allegedly taken decades ago by a gentleman's grandfather in Alaska. The original report came from another UFO website. The photo shows something going on in the mid-ground just in front of a stand of pine trees. The ground in front of the "goings on" is flat and sandy, as you would expect patchy ground in a forest to be.
<I do not write to challenge anyone's interpretation of this photograph. However, as I paint landscapes as a hobby, and also like to test out scanned pictures in Photoshop, I gave the picture as shown with the posting the full treatment.
<In Photoshop, I cropped the photograph down so that a depression, the standing individual, and some of the foreground were left. Then I changed the mode to greyscale. Once in greyscale, I hit the image with all the contrast and brightness adjustments possible to the max.
<Definitely, there are two beings in the scene. However, I think they are both of the same size, because it appears that they are wearing same-size helmets. One is standing and has its right hand raised; the diagonal line coming out from the hand and down to the ground could be a staff. The other is slouched down in a depression, with its back to the camera, and its legs and feet flat out on the ground in front of it. The standing being's legs straddle those of the one down in the depression.
<The way I read it, the standing being's whole attitude seems to be one where it is trying to get the one in the depression to get up and get moving, to get away. But the grandfather has arrived. The standing being is just turning away from the one in the depression to look up at the grandfather. (Click.)
<Do I think it is possible that this photo is a fake? In the matter of taking snapshots of the unknown, sometimes luck matters. I have photos of my own from 70 years ago showing similar pine forests, with the same quality of the prints, using 4 x 5 inch and 2 x 3 negatives. What did the grandfather do after he took the picture? Run? Stand and stare until the two beings left the vicinity?
<(What astounds me is that the grandfather claimed that he had had to chase one of the beings for some distance. Amazing; aliens can run!)
I wish there were more details about the lens settings on the camera, the speed of the film, and the grandfather's location. Oh, well, that's the end of my sermon for this time. KEEP WATCHING THE SKYS, AND KEEP A CAMERA OR CAMERA PHONE CLOSE BY!
If you have plowed through my other posting about the pictures, here are the photos in question. The big picture looks exactly as it was posted by the UFO site to P&Ms. The picture with the red ink markings pertain to the interpretation by the UFO site. The picture without red markings is my doctored version of the photo close-up, as doctored in Photoshop, in greyscale, with contrast and brighness tothe max.
Again, I must emphasize, as you may read in on of the books about The Face on Mars, that any photograph that seems to contain more than seems visible to the naked eye needs to be put through the wringer of Photoshop. And watch the ups and downs of the ground, too. And shadows.
