Outside of Bunkie, Louisiana, and just barely visible from the busy highway, there is a classic, small, wooden frame church with a small burial ground to one side. In the late 1980s, on the way to visit a friend, my Mother (now deceased) and I stopped at Bunkie to get a "box lunch of fried chicken", then went out to the burial ground to sit on the lid of a sunken tomb to eat. Of course, we cleaned up after ourselves and took our trash with us.

While I was looking around at the scenery, I took a good, long look at the screen door at the rear of the church. The door was set at the end of the long side facing me. (I will state that in the family, I am the one who has been blessed, or cursed, with the ability to sense the presence of ghosts, and even to converse with them.)

I sensed that a ghostly presence was in the doorway, and as i let my sixth sense key in on who was there, I distinctly saw the image of a little girl, maybe no more than three or four years old. She had blond hair done up in Shirley Temple ringlets, with two pink bows on either side of her head. She was standing straight, as if at attention, but I knew she was aware of me, actually looking at me.

The most remarkable detail of her appearance was her dress. It was pink to match the bows in her hair, had a long skirt, puffy sleeves, and an Empire waistline. I had the impression that she had on black patent leather shoes and white socks. Perhaps she had been a flower girl at a wedding.

There was a moment of disorientation, and the child vanished. I was then looking at the closed wooden door behind the screen door. That was how I knew that the vision was real. I did a painting of the scene, but unfortunately, the floods of 2005 in New Orleans ate the thing through the canvas. As far as i know, the church and the churchyard are still there, and worth making a trip. Oh, and yes, if the chicken place is still there in an old green building, give it a try.

I write this in reference to the ghostly apparition in connection with the bones found in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. It is always good to have new ghost photos to compare with ones that have already been seen and critiqued. In this instance, I am comparing the photo with that of the 1941 wedding (see photo gallery) in which a "wraith" of a obviously distressed woman is emerging from the underbrush; she is waving her arms frantically and seems to be wearing a hospital gown. To me, I have no doubts that the 1941 photo is genuine; a faker would never dream of such details. In the same way, I think this picture of the man with his trousers over his shoulders is real; no faker would ever dream of such details, either.
